All our events are different but they each
share a commitment to locally-sourced food
Biodiversity depends on the preservation of old-growth forests, grasslands, estuaries and unique
ecosystems across the globe. Many of us risk participating in the destruction of these environments through our material choices. At Jimmy Garcia Catering, we work hard to limit these as much as possible every day as we are dedicated to providing services with the least environmental impact possible, continually striving for improvement by reducing the impact of our operations through our own work and through working with our clients.
Our Three Pillar Approach
By adapting these pillars to all our menus, we are able to offer the most sustainably thought led approach to our catering.
Working towards zero waste - The Oasis Community Fridge
At the start of this year we began a partnership with the people running the Oasis Community Fridge project in Waterloo. Providing good food to those who need it the most, the overall aim of the project is to stop food poverty and stop good food going to waste.
We flexed our operations to ensure that any unused food from our events is delivered straight to the Community Fridge after each event. Clearly labelled and with allergens and care instructions, meals are available from the fridge to whoever needs them the following day.
Just last month after only four months, we delivered our 1000th meal to the fridge. That's a thousand boxes of great food, leftover from events that would have otherwise gone to waste. It's a bittersweet moment, as we're delighted that this food has gone to people who really need it, at the same time realising more about the size of the problem of food waste and how much more needs to be done by the event industry.
Every event we cater becomes an opportunity to make a difference
If you would like to see first hand the direct impact your event has made, we welcome you to join our team on Friday mornings to volunteer at Waterloo Kitchen's Breakfast Club and meet the community we support. For more information please email chase@jimmygarciacatering.com
“We’re thrilled to have the support of Jimmy here in Waterloo. In the UK alone, 6.4 million tonnes of edible food goes to waste each year, which is the equivalent of 15 billion meals and that’s really sobering.”
Diane Blacker, project lead at the Oasis Hub Waterloo
“It’s fantastic to have the team at the Oasis Hub running a project like the community fridge. It makes so much sense in our industry to ensure that the food which we’ve been so careful to source, cook and serve, all gets to be eaten.”
